Conductor Bretislav Bakala (1897 - 1958), a dedicated pupil of Leos Janacek, reserved a significant part of his career for an exceptionally systematic presentation of his great master's works. In their own time Bakala's impeccable and in a sense authentic Janackian creations attracted extraordinary attention. Many of them were recorded and thus have been preserved for future generations of listeners. Supraphon is now returning, in digitalized versions, to Bakalaś accounts of Janacek's Sinfonietta and Glagolitic Mass. Although the original recordings were made five decades ago, time has detracted nothing from their quality. They serve as a fascinating testimony to a key stage in the tradition of Janackian interpretation. Here is a title not to be missed by any Janacek aficionado. On its tracks, Bretislav Bakala presents an original interpretation of two masterpieces by the genius of 20th-century music.
Bretislav Bakala conducts Janacek: a rare document of Janackian interpretation.
